CCTV AMC: What an Annual Maintenance Contract Should Cover
A CCTV system is only useful on the day you need it. A CCTV AMC, or annual maintenance contract, is the way to make sure it is recording on that day. But AMCs differ a lot, so it helps to know what to ask for.
Why cameras need maintenance
Lenses collect dust and spider webs, cables loosen, power supplies age and hard disks wear out. Without checks, a camera may stop recording for weeks before anybody notices. What a good CCTV AMC covers
- Scheduled visits: how many a year, and what is checked each time.
- Cleaning: lenses, housings and the area around the cameras.
- Recording check: that every camera records, with correct date and time, and that playback is smooth.
- Hard disk health: checks for errors, and how many days of footage are stored.
- Connections and power: cables, joints, power supplies and backup.
- AI features: that face lists, human detection, speakers and sirens work, and that alerts reach your phone.
- Response time: how soon someone attends a fault, and what counts as urgent.
- Replacement: what is included, such as parts, labour and spare cameras.
AMC and warranty are different
A warranty covers manufacturing faults for a fixed period; Stanklin cameras come with a 2 year replacement warranty. An AMC covers regular care and attention to faults, including the ones a warranty does not. Ask what is excluded: vandalism, lightning and water damage are common exclusions.
